1. Neutral Interior Colour Schemes 2025
In case you hadn’t noticed, there has been a significant shift from cool to warm neutrals for interior colour schemes in recent years. Gone are the 50 shades of grey. Instead, we’re gravitating to neutrals with warm and sophisticated undertones, like green, ochre, clay and purple – and using plenty of contrasting shades, textures and organic materials to ensure our neutrals are not boring.
If you love decorating with grey and finding it hard to move on, neutrals with green undertones may be the perfect middle ground. Taupes with green undertones feel tranquil and balanced and are well-suited to Queensland homes. In 2025, light warm browns like Clay Pipe (bottom left) are featuring in Dulux’s 2025 Colour Forecast. These look great paired with natural and earth-toned accessories as well as rich russet and brown velvets. This interior colour scheme is great for adding contrast and warmth but not heat.
2. White Interior Colour Schemes 2025
White remains a key 2025 interior paint colour because it’s so easy to inject warmth by bringing in other colours, textures and patterns. It’s also refreshing in a tropical climate and will probably never go out of style in Queensland. However, we’ve largely left behind cool whites for warm whites, and we’re adding other warm colours through accessories, artwork, and soft furnishings. Warmer toned whites are in fact a must to complement some of the stronger earthy colours, like rich tan and mustard yellow, that are trending now.
Natural materials, such as timber, stone and rattan are warm white’s perfect styling partners. For an updated Hamptons or coastal look, designers are pairing warm white with teals, creamy beiges, golds and smokey blues instead of cool pale blues and silver.
The Dulux 2025 Colour Forecast features classic warm whites like Whisper White (bottom) and Antique White (top) which provide the perfect foundation for layering warm tones through furniture and soft furnishings.
3. Green Interior Colour Schemes 2025
Now the grey trend is over, we’re using use a lot of green to create areas of calm in our homes. Botanical green is here to stay and colour experts say green will become even more prominent throughout interior design in 2025. Deep, earthy and organic greens like olive and sage are popular, and brighter yellow-greens are coming through. Gentle light greens, used in place of a more traditional neutral colour palette, can add interest to rooms while still maintaining a classic look.
Green is one of the safest colours to use in a home. Like blue, it brings a sense of calm to a space and is easy to match with other colours and textures. Greens like Birch Forest (top left) & Longhedge (bottom left) from the Taubmans 2024 Grounded Palette pair beautifully with stone, wood and spicy neutrals like paprika and soft terracotta.
4. Playful and Vibrant Interior Colour Schemes 2025
With the upheaval in the world outside, people will continue to seek ways to bring joy to their homes in 2025, and colour is a great way to do it. Last year, bright uplifting pastels were favoured in kids’ rooms and recreational spaces. This year we have moved towards more greyed-off and saturated mid-tone colours to create playful interior colour schemes.
The 2025 Dulux Emerge Colour Palette features uplifting shades of muted pink, mauve, purple-blue, coral and jade, as well as Red Clown for a pop of joy. Interior colour schemes featuring these colours can create a retro, feel-good vibe that’s great for eclectic spaces. Red is predicted to be big in 2025 but the brighter shades tend to work best in small doses, such as a cabinet, lamp or chair, to bring energy to a space without overwhelming it.
5. Deep and Dramatic Interior Colour Schemes 2025
In 2025, there are some new deep, dark hues for those looking for a bold interior colour scheme that is still elegant and refined. Colour experts predict Future Dusk a deep blue-purple inspired by science, space and technology, will be big in 2025. Moody and mystical, it brings cosy luxury to bedrooms or home theatres where it can add drama and look fantastic.
Rich burgundies and wine colours are also predicted to be strong for 2025. Colours like Plum Sauce and Grapeshot from the Dulux 2025 Recollect palette, evoke a feeling of opulence in living and dining rooms. Layering these deep dark shades with contrasting finishes – like reflective surfaces (mirrors, glass and metal) against velvet and textured rugs – can create a gorgeous powder room or dramatic dining room in a Queensland home.
