The Signature team helped to transform this significant Brisbane heritage building, formerly the Queensland Country Women’s Association headquarters, into a contemporary Junior School for Brisbane Girls Grammar. With a heritage façade dating to 1884, the project required a considered approach to painting and rendering that would blend the building’s historic character with a modern new extension and deliver the architect’s vision.

Signature Painters completed all interior and detailed exterior painting, timber coating, rendering, decorative artwork and specialist signwriting across the project. A total of 54 colours were used to create a sophisticated palette that unites the original heritage building with the new architecture.

The project showcases exceptional technical and decorative painting expertise. Exterior rendering was carefully managed to replicate the traditional finish of the original building and seamlessly integrate the new extension with its distinctive colonnade of arches.

A standout artistic feature is the intricate sheet music artwork painted across a series of rendered heritage columns. Each musical note and stave was precisely laser-set to ensure alignment around and between the columns, with the work carefully coordinated and reviewed with the project architects. Specialist hand-painted signwriting using traditional mineral paint further enhanced the heritage aesthetic, delivering a refined, durable matte finish.

Internally, highly saturated feature colours, precise geometric designs and sharp intersecting cut lines were executed to an exacting standard, including striking black-and-white checkerboard walls designed to complement the flooring.

The result is a high-quality, cohesive finish that celebrates both the building’s heritage and its contemporary design and artistic elements.
