Signature Painters undertook a full interior and exterior restoration and repaint of this neglected and badly peeling Queenslander. The new owners wanted a colour scheme that respected the home’s heritage bones, and Signature Painters provided a colour consultant to help them select the perfect neutral shades. We chose a semi-gloss finish for the weatherboards and a high-gloss finish for the windows and woodwork to give the exterior a glowing, high-end finish.
As the ‘before’ photos show, this house needed a lot of preparation! High-level heritage restoration skills and a lot of elbow grease were required to renew badly damaged and potentially toxic surfaces to an as-new, high-end finish.
For the exterior, our crew meticulously restored and repainted fascias, gutters, downpipes, gables, FC sheets, weatherboards, windows sills and shades, verandah doors, balustrades and the staircase. They safely removed asbestos and lead-based paint by stripping much of the timber back to bare boards using specialist techniques to avoid dust and contaminants. Surfaces were then thoroughly filled, sanded and skimmed to get a perfect foundation, and undercoated with Dulux 1Step. This was followed by further patching and priming, before painting the entire exterior to a smooth, glowing finish using three topcoats of Dulux Weathershield.
For the interior, which was also very rundown, we restored and repainted VJ panelling and walls, original doors and decorative woodwork, water-damaged ceilings and leadlight window frames. We spray-finished the VJs with Dulux Low Sheen, and used Dulux Acrylic Gloss Enamel on the woodwork for a beautiful, smooth hard-wearing finish.
It’s hard to overstate the transformation that the new, well-executed paintwork achieved! Some would have thought this home was a knockdown, but Signature Painters transformed it into a beautiful Queenslander classic.

” Jo & Josh were here for nearly 10 weeks, the amount of work and effort they put in to prep the house, you could tell they really cared about the end result and you can see it…. I can’t even explain the feeling I had when I saw the house finished…. We are so grateful that we chose Signature Painters Brisbane – they have made our house so beautiful. I couldn’t have asked for a better outcome.” Rebecca Russell
