1. Warm Neutral Exterior Colour Schemes

When it comes to exterior paint colours for 2023, the warmer palettes that started to become popular last year still ring true. The experts say that as we seek more connection with the natural world, we’re continuing to move away from cool greys to the warmer neutrals like those in the Dulux 2023 ‘Connect’ palette.

Organic shades that reflect the colour of clay, earth, or stone in or around a home allow it to blend seamlessly into the surrounding environment and can look fabulous.  Beiges paired with black or white accents and trims work beautifully on homes with natural stone or timber exterior elements.

2. Warm White & Off-white

Shades of white and cream continue to remain popular exterior paint colours as we move through 2023. But instead of bright white, go with a more subdued option that looks softer and more restful on a weatherboard exterior. Great examples are Dulux Casper White, Whisper White, and Green Alabaster Half. These have gentle green and beige undertones and look sophisticated when teamed with dramatic dark accents.

The traditional Queensland Hamptons ‘all-white’ exterior colour scheme is still on trend, but the bright whites are moving to softer and warmer tones that are more visually calm and serene.

3. Deep Dark Blue and Blue-Green

Deep sea blues are becoming popular with homeowners who are looking for a bold exterior colour. While a dark oceanic blue is a bold choice, it is still elegant and refined. Paired with seashell whites and pastels, and natural wood textures, these hues can also have a calming effect.

For inspiration on this exterior colour scheme, see the Dulux 2023 ‘Balance’ palette featuring oceanic colours such as soft greens, deep moody teals and blues. Dulux Starfish is a traditional dark blue-gray shade with a modern twist that would work well for both classic and contemporary homes. Sea Kelp, a dark black-blue, is another sea-inspired option for those wanting a more dramatic look.

4. Olive and Smokey Green

In 2023, earthy and smokey toned greens are definitely back. The key for a successful green exterior colour scheme is using muddier or greyer versions of natural greens to give a more sophisticated look – think smokey greens, deep olives or muted sages.

If you want to draw on your home’s surrounding leafy landscape, these nature-focused hues will likely resonate with you. Dark smokey and olive greens can be flattering to greenery and accentuate flowering plants. Paired with black or timber accents and trims, they can work beautifully on weatherboard homes.

2023 Door Colours for Exterior Colour Schemes

Tones of warm blush and terracotta started featuring as trim and door options post-covid as they add softness and warmth to a home’s exterior. Brighter versions are now coming on the scene, for example bold pinkish-reds inspired by Viva Magenta, the Pantone colour of year, spicey paprikas and vibrant red-oranges that exude energy and warmth.

Other 2023 front door colours include  the new deep sea blues, tranquil blue-greens and earthy greens, along with perennially popular black and charcoal.

How to Get your Exterior Colour Scheme Right

Your home’s existing features, both in and outside, should influence your choice of exterior paint colours. Don’t go for a trendy colour if it doesn’t complement what’s already there. For example, take into account the colours and textures of your home’s foundations, roof, outdoor area, and interior furnishings as well as other factors that affect the success of an exterior colour scheme.

Before making any decisions, make sure you get a professional colour consult and colour overlay, get colour swatches and test sample pots on your home’s exterior. At Signature Painters, we can help you with this process, which includes a free Dulux Colour Consult and Colour Overlay with a full repaint. Our process will help you choose a colour you love that adds value to your property. And of course, we guarantee your home will be beautifully painted by our Signature residential exterior painting experts!
